Life in the Junior School

Our Year 5 and 6 students have made a smooth and positive transition into the Lourdes Hill College Junior School, settling into their new classes with enthusiasm and determination. It has been fantastic to see them build new friendships and embrace the exciting opportunities the College offers. Students have demonstrated great independence in navigating their way to ensemble and instrumental lessons while also supporting each other as they make their way to Nyanza and Polding Theatre.

Our Junior School students have been actively engaged in a diverse range of co-curricular activities. As part of the Music Immersion Program, each student has received a musical instrument and participates in weekly instrumental lessons and an after-school ensemble. Learning a musical instrument is a challenge, but our students have embraced it with determination and enthusiasm.

Sport is also a key part of Junior School life, with students participating in swimming, aerobics, run club, and tennis this term. On the cultural front, students have joined dance troupes and drama clubs, further enhancing their creative expression and teamwork skills. We encourage all Junior School students to participate in at least one co-curricular activity per semester, as these experiences help to build teamwork, routine, and self-confidence.

This term also saw the launch of our House Sister lunch activities, a program that connects Junior School students with their Junior School House Sisters—Year 8 and 9 students who act as mentors and buddies within each House. This program is a valuable opportunity for students to form a mentoring relationship that will continue when they transition into Year 7, providing them with a familiar face and a supportive presence in the House community. Throughout the year, the House Sister program will continue to strengthen the sense of belonging and leadership within each House, fostering a caring and supportive environment for all students.

The next few weeks will be filled with exciting opportunities, including the launch of the Year 6 Leadership Program, Year 5 students completing NAPLAN, and the Year 5 Camp.

Our Junior School students are taking everything in stride. Each day, they are growing, developing new skills, and thriving in all areas of school life. We are incredibly proud of their progress and look forward to seeing them continue to flourish and contribute to the vibrant Junior School community throughout the year!
