Powerhouse of Leaders - 25 May 2016

On Monday 9 May, the Student Mission Team attended a gathering of Catholic school leaders from across the archdiocese, calIed the Powerhouse of Leaders. Within an atmosphere of excitement, fuelled by fabulous music and great dancing, the student leaders were treated to some challenging observations from some interesting speakers, all centred around leadership in this Year of Mercy. Dr Maeve Heaney from the Australian Catholic University urged the students to listen to the inner murmurings of their hearts, reminding them that their dreams come from God. Robyn Moore, voiceover artist and previous speaker at LHC’s Proactive Parenting Program, reminded her audience of their call to be extraordinary. She warned them to be on the lookout for cynicism, resignation, anger and procrastination, which she saw as the cause of leaders falling short of their potential. Archbishop Mark Coleridge spoke of the need for a different type of vision – being able to see with the eyes of mercy. Indeed, he issued everyone with special glasses to facilitate this vision! Finally, Fr Rob Galea encouraged everyone to see beyond their own limited vision of themselves, with their faults and failings always so obvious, instead focussing on the incredible potential that God sees in each one of us. The whole day was a reminder of the call of Christian leaders to life in all its fullness.
