God's plan of light - 05 February 2015

From the Deputy Principal – Mission:

Many of you will be familiar with the oft repeated quote from the A Team's Colonel John "Hannibal" Smith: "I love it when a plan comes together". The beginning of the 2015 school year has certainly justified these words being spoken at LHC. It is the joy on the faces of our new students and the pride on the faces of our returning students that reinforces the success of the planning for this momentous year in our history.

In this, the 100th year of LHC's existence, there is both an appreciation of our heritage and an excitement for the future. How fitting, therefore, are the words of our 2015 theme, "The light shines on." The theme reminds us that we have received the light from those who came before us and that we have a responsibility to pass it on. We must be stewards of the light.

So what is that light?

The gospels tell us that Jesus is the light of the world, so anything that reflects His teachings shows light. When we show peace, forgiveness, respect and compassion, we show light. When we are people of hope and prayer, when we listen with the ear of our hearts, we are people of light. When our community embodies hospitality, balanceand justice, truly welcoming the stranger and caring for its most marginalised members, the light shines on.

Throughout the year, we will use the following prayer, which I invite you to say regularly at home, to help us focus on our theme:

Loving God,

We thank you for the many ways in which light shines in our lives for people of light, for the light of learning and for the spirit of hope which brings light.

Help us ensure that the light will shine on.

Open our eyes to recognise the light; open our minds to find ways to keep it burning; and open our hearts to bring light to places of darkness.

May we be bearers of your light to the world.

Amen

It's all part of the divine plan!

John Clarke

Deputy Principal - Mission
