|Hockey grand final victory - 15 September 2014|
On Saturday 30 August, a group of very excited and nervous girls took to the hockey field for their JG3 division grand final, in a rematch of the semi-final against Easts. The match was always going to be tough considering the LHC Purple Team had beaten Easts once and drawn twice in the lead up to the final.
LHC were extremely committed from the start. In the first minute of play, following some good right side attack, a goal was scored by Janayah Orchard after a pass from Rosa Faranda.
LHC continued to work the ball forward but Easts’ defence was strong and after having to defend several penalty corners, Easts equalised, bring the score to 1 – 1 at half time.
The second half saw LHC having to defend well as Easts gained confidence. The LHC defence tackled constantly, clearing the ball from the circle and then working the ball downfield to force several penalty corners.
As the game was nearing full time and the score remained at 1 – 1, the nervous supporters were keeping an eye on the clock. With about three minutes remaining, LHC forced a penalty corner and after a good push out by Abbey Haynes, Maddie Bush was able to score through the smallest gap to make the final result a 2 – 1 victory for LHC.
This was incredible win considering this team were ‘wooden spooners’ in 2013. All LHC hockey players are supporters now look forward to a bigger year in 2015.
