Kayaking season begins with boat blessing - 01 July 2014

The kayaking season was launched with a special ceremony to bless the boats at the Stella Centre on Saturday 21 June. College Principal, Ms Robyn Anderson, and Deputy Principal Mission, Mr John Clarke, joined parent and paddlers to get the season started in true Lourdanian style.

There was a real buzz in the air as families gathered in prayer to focus on the upcoming season. Water from the Brisbane River was mixed with water from Lourdes then sprinkled over the boats as participants prayed for God's continued blessings on the sport.

The coaching staff was introduced and great excitement was generated by the fact that there were two Australian representatives. Head coach, Amanda Rankin, is a former Olympian, having represented Australia at the Athens Games of 2004. Tim Donkin is another national kayaker and both are keen to work with fellow coaches and former LHC students, Taylor Bednall and Lucy Goddard, to challenge the girls to exceed their expectations.

President of the Parent Support Group, Kath Parker, was thrilled with the energy and enthusiasm on display and predicts another successful season.
