From Classroom to Commonwealth Games for Georgia - 16 April 2014

Lourdes Hill Year 10 student, Georgia Sheehan, has been selected in the Australian diving team that will compete in the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

Georgia joins the ranks of diving greats Melissa Wu and Matthew Mitcham to represent her country in what will arguably be one of the Games’ most exciting spectator sports.

She will compete in her specialty event, the one-metre springboard.

Georgia, who will turn 15 in July, just two weeks shy of the Games, could be the youngest athlete in the entire Australian team.

This week, Georgia spoke to Tom Mitchell from Nine News about her achievement.

She said she was thrilled to be selected for such a major international event, and that the support of her family, teachers and friends at Lourdes Hill has helped her to maintain a good balance between her diving, study and social life.

Pictured are some behind-the-scenes photos taken during filming.

The story will air during the 6pm Nine News sports bulletin in the coming days.
