Success at the Mathematics Team Challenge - 21 August 2018

Congratulations to our three teams who competed in the Mathematics Team Challenge at Balmoral State High School on Friday 3 August. The Challenge comprised a Teams Event, where students had to collaboratively solve 10 challenging questions, and a Relay Event, where students competed against the clock to solve questions in pairs.

Our Junior B Team performed exceptionally, and it was a tie for first place after two rounds and an intensive 'count back' tie break procedure. The only way to break the tie was for one student from each team to compete in an individual challenge – a timed problem solving activity to complete in one minute. It was very intense as 30 teams all watched on in the hall! Clare Mar Fan performed excellently under pressure, but unfortunately we did lose the tie break. The girls were very proud to receive their runner up medals in the Junior category.

The Intermediate Team was tied for first place at the end of the first round, after receiving full marks for all 10 of their problems to solve (no easy feat!). Unfortunately, they did not place overall after a couple of small mistakes in the second round.

Our teams were are follows:

Junior A:

Danielle Maguire

Emily Fensom

Marielle Arbolado

Kristianna Quesada

Bronte Quinn

Gabriella Murphy

Junior B:

Jasmine Evans

Caitlyn Sutherland

Clare Mar Fan

Olivia Luttrell

Leila Merrotsy

Emma Chapman

Samantha Buckley

Ella Mar Fan

Sophie Nakamura

Annabelle Green

Hannah Thorpe

Grace Dillon

All girls represented LHC extremely well and should be very proud of their achievements.
