We Can't Stop the Beat - 07 March 2017

Lourdes Hill College Co-Curricular Music is ready! All students are singing and playing with enthusiasm as they prepare to inspire and entertain the LHC community in 2017.

In Term 1, new iniatives have seen the instrumentalists rise to the challenge to extend their skills, share their passion and represent the College at numerous events with poise. The annual Arts Weekend, held at the beginning of February, saw the launch of the 2017 Cabaret Showcase theme, “Alice’s Adventure to Wonderland”. All members of the community are invited to go on an adventure down the rabbit hole on Friday 28 April and witness the power of the Queen of Hearts in Polding Theatre, the frivolity of the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party in Duhig Hall, the ever so haunting disappearance of Alice in the Benedict Centre and witness the “Trials of Alice”, a musical theatre showcase in the Good Samaritan Centre. This jam-packed event will highlight the students' love of music and their ability to learn repertoire well beyond their years.

The Co-Curricular Music Department also extends an invitation for all families to attend the Easter Concert to be held at St James Church, Coorparoo on Thursday 30 March at 7:00pm. This concert will be reflective and a wonderful introduction to the Easter story, featuring all vocal and string ensembles.

As the department continues to grow, Ms Tricia Reck, Strings Coordinator, is seeking any students who would be interested in learning the double bass and Mr Paul Kopez, Ensemble Coordinator, is wanting to encourage any Year 7 or 8 students interested in learning a brass instrument to make contact with the College. Please email all enquires to Mrs Alyce O’Neill

The world of music at LHC is spinning to an exciting rhythm and the beat of the drum is louder than ever. We look forward to seeing many of you at the upcoming events.

“The world keeps spinning
Round and round

And our heart's keeping time
To the speed of the sound.
We were lost till we heard the drums
Then we found our way!

We can’t stop the beat.” (Hairspray)
