|Caritas is spread around on Valentine’s Day - 22 February 2017|
Caritas is the Latin word for love and there was plenty on display on Tuesday 14 February, when the Student Mission Team held a Roses and Chocolates stall in the Good Samaritan Centre to raise money for Project Compassion, the Lenten Program run by Caritas Australia.
Determined to get an early start on their goal to raise over $25,000 for Project Compassion in 2017, the students were pleased with their day’s work when they realised they had made a profit of $1400 thanks to the support of the community.
Several hours were devoted to dethorning and wrapping 600 red roses and to attaching five kilograms of heart shaped chocolates to cards, but all was worth it when all roses were sold along with all but 20 chocolates. The knowledge that the funds raised would make a huge difference to communities all around the world, with an emphasis on creating self-sustaining projects, made the roses look prettier and the chocolates taste sweeter.
We look forward to the community’s ongoing support of Project Compassion projects, most of which will occur through the Houses. The next Student Mission Team event will be a Pancake Stall on Shrove Tuesday, 28 February. Another opportunity to spread caritas around!
